Men’s Group
We’ve had good response from members interested in going to Ducks baseball game.
Ducks require that we give estimate of number of tickets. We have 6 weeks to return unused
tickets, so we have to time this right- don’t want to get stuck having to pay for unused tickets.
Sunday games seem best- start at 5:05
Friday won’t work due to traffic and inability of people to get there in time, due to work.
Ducks will make up flier for us.
Tickets are mostly $10 each, some are $11 (depending on which seating area we get).
Estimate attendance of 50 people.
Youth group
April 17th is the Youth Group’s next event- game night. Will be organized, as the kids don’t
mingle enough unless events are structured.
Had friendship event- Kids made friendship bracelets and signed each other’s books to get to
know each other- books included each kid’s favorite things, etc.
Ice skating- had a lot of no-shows. Was fun, but not much mingling.
Dumpling making day- was fantastic. Kids had great time. About 20 kids came (some brought
friends).
Activity ideas: Maybe in June- beach day
Winter activity idea- making mittens to send over to China
Special needs/ older child support group (Sheila Shea present)- This group needs to have
representative at Advisory Board. Out of fairness to everyone, all committee chairs and
advisory board members need to attend advisory board meetings.
-February 27- last meeting- about 20 people came. Some new people, some people
considering sn adoption, and some “seasoned” parents.
-This group is growing as more people are adopting special needs children.
-Special needs meetings are held every other month.
Education
Little Chefs in Syosset will do dumpling making activity for us. Older kids will make dumplings
and chicken and broccoli. Cost will be 19.95 per child. Will do craft and ribbon dance. Little
ones will make almond paste cookies. Possible Friday nights- April 23, 30 and May 7th at 6:
30 pm. Will include child’s age on registration so we know how to divvy up group. Limited to
25 kids.
Also discussed:
- Maybe we should look into place that is more centrally located for meetings, or meetings in
general- Huntington Hilton Hotel? The Kressels have a connection here- know the general
manager- will ask. Or maybe other hotel- we can offer them endorsement in exchange for
room.
-We should put aside percentage of our account into a financial assistance fund, since
Greater NY FCC does not reimburse money for financial aid for events- we don’t want anyone
to ever not be able to come to one of our events due to cost
-Idea for activities to do as a group-Maybe a lifebook group?
- Next big upcoming event for 2010: Picnic
-Idea to get more volunteers for future events- If you volunteer, you can get a discount on
admission, or 1 free ticket (cap at 15 volunteers, for example)
-If you are chairing a committee, you need to stay until end of event to help with cleanup.
-Money in Chinese school account- need to discuss with Danielle what will happen with these
funds if school doesn’t reopen by September- maybe use it for Education events within our
group
-FCC- Greater NY will grant membership money for financial aid if you cannot afford
membership
Homecoming/ decorating:
Will have two sets of decorations- 1 for Nassau (Jennifer Wilson-Pines in charge of this), 1
for Suffolk (Jayne Hirsch will keep these)
Lending Library:
Kate will once a month post to List-Serv to remind FCC members of the lending library.
Fundraising-
Cookbook idea is a no-go. This fundraiser won’t work- need to sell many many books to
make any money.
Will maybe do calendar fundraiser via Shutterfly or similar?
Upcoming meetings:
May 21 is our next meeting and then September meeting will be vote
