Everything FCC-LI accomplishes is due to the work of our volunteers.  With your help, we hope
to provide more benefits like those listed below to our member families.

What the Committee Does
This committee plans, organizes, and manages the annual FCC-LI Chinese New Year
celebration.  This is FCC-LI’s largest event.  Date is set for February 15, 2009.

Volunteer Needs
Committee Members to plan the event:
Arts & Crafts: Plan crafts and order supplies, organize volunteers   (Barbara Fischthal-
Gumpel has offered to guide the new committee)
Get and organize vendors
Get corporate sponsors and donations for raffle baskets
Get and organize the entertainment
Purchase and deliver all drinks/food
Determine, purchase, and set-up decorations/centerpieces/hong-bao envelopes
Put together registration
Shop for candy, red envelopes, paper goods, etc.
Order balloons, tablecloths
Organize student volunteers and other help
Put together all raffle baskets, number them, etc.

Volunteers on the day of the event for:
Early arrival for set-up
Assistance with entertainment
Assistance with the vendors
Break-down and clean-up

What the Committee Does
Efforts are focused on providing FCC-LI members with educational opportunities in order to be
aware of issues important in adoption parenting and other issues related to adoption, China or
the Chinese-American experience.  The committee selects and organizes adoption education
programs, which are deemed to be appropriate in meeting the needs of chapter membership.  
The group also informs FCC-LI members about adoption education programs offered by other
groups and organizations.  Additionally, the committee provides information and organizes
programs to assist members in learning about and experiencing Chinese culture.  A goal of this
committee is to have the Chinese-American community become more involved with FCC-LI.  
This group will also inform FCC-LI members about Chinese cultural events offered by other
groups and organizations.

To provide social opportunities for FCC-LI in grades 3 and up to interact with kids in their own
age group and foster lasting friendships, as well as creating and overseeing
events for the older FCC-LI children.  This group of wonderful kids also plans and
works on their own fund raising efforts for orphanage assistance.  A goal of this
group is to introduce the children to older transracial adoptees for a mentor
program.  It is also our hope that the Youth Group kids of today will come back and
volunteer as mentors when they are older.

About Waiting Families
This committee hosts events for FCC members who are paperchasing or DTC.  In
response to many waiting families and due to the longer waiting times for referrals,
this group is closed to only those families that are waiting, or considering adopting
from China.

(NEW!)  Special Needs & Older Child Adoption Support Group

About this group:
As more families adopt special needs and older children, we want to provide
support and information for these families.  Additionally, this group will help families
that are considering switching to special needs or older children adoption to make
a decision that is right for them.

About the Playgroups
Playgroups have formed throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties allowing parents and
children to make friends and lasting relationships within the FCC-LI community.  Events are
scheduled at the discretion of the group.  To date, these playdates have been informal events
that are randomly planned at various locations around the Island.   More “formal” events, such
as the Bronx Zoo for FCC-LI members are being considered.  Please join us!

What the webmaster does:
Our webmaster develops and maintains FCC-LI’s website.  Our goal is to continue to develop
our website and provide substantial resources to families pre- and post-adoption from China.  
The webmaster also designs and sends all the emails sent to the membership.  Suggestions ,
artwork, photographs and relevant links are always welcome.

What the Committee Does
This committee meets at the homes of families on the day that families return home from China
with their new children.  They decorate the home with streamers, balloons, and signs.  It’s a
great way to say welcome home to the newest members of the FCC-LI families.  Our
Chairperson, Joanne Nix, emails committee members and lets them know of upcoming
arrivals.  Times are coordinated, as are who is bringing what.   

Volunteer Needs
We are always looking for new people to help with this committee, especially in Western
Nassau and Eastern Suffolk.  This is a great committee to join because it’s so flexible!

What the Committee Does

This committee is responsible for public relations matters.  Efforts focus on putting ads in
various local newspapers and popular adoption publications about FCC-LI upcoming events.  
This committee is also responsible for handling the press releases for Chinese New Year, as
well as contacting local news stations to publicize this event.  A goal for this committee would
also contact various adoption agencies to let them know about our organization.

We need people that will work in conjunction with Tina to contact area publications and adoption
agencies.

About this Committee
This new committee will focus its efforts on developing and organizing events to help raise even
more funds for orphanage assistance than we currently do now.  This committee will also plan
and organize an annual fund-raising event for FCC-LI so that we can bring more programs to
our membership and have more flexibility when it comes to our budget for various events.  
Additionally, this committee will decide how to utilize the funds raised for orphaned children in
China (surgeries, cleft palate bottles, education, fostering, etc.)

Upcoming Event
The pavilion at the Amityville Beach was reserved for August 24th.  The committee must meet
and decide what type of event to hold (BBQ, Ice Cream Social, etc.)  The committee will be in
charge of overseeing all aspects of this event.

Volunteer Needs
Committee members to plan events and come up with fundraising ideas, and decide how
these funds will be dispersed
Events will need volunteers from the planning stages, through set-up and clean-up

Volunteer Needs
We need people that are willing to write articles for the newsletter – can be anything about
waiting, the adoption trip, coming home, bonding, etc.  Did you have a great time at an event?  
Please write about it!  It is our goal to have the newsletter come out quarterly.
